About Peter Bottomley and Worthing West

Peter Bottomley is the MP for Worthing West, West Sussex after first becoming an MP in 1975.

Peter Bottomley was educated at a mixed comprehensive school in Washington DC, Westminster School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He is married with three children.

He has been Chairman of the Church of England Children's Society, a Trustee of Christian Aid and founded the Family Forum. He has been a member of the Child Poverty Action Group and the Transport House branch of the Transport and General Worker's Union. He is Vice President of the Disabled Driver's Association, a member of the Council of Europe (Western European group) and sits on the Select Committee on the Lord Chancellor's Department.

He has been a captain of the works football team, once letting in a goal in a charity game at Wembley. He is now incapable of regaining the swimming championship as the fastest wet at Westminster but sometimes leads the Commons dinghy sailors to success against the Lords claiming that his team never fails to come second in bad years.

2010 General Election

Peter was re-elected in the 2010 General Election to serve Worthing West. He was delighted to receive over 50% of the total vote.

MPs Salary and Allowances

Information is published annually on all MPs salaries and what they have claimed in allowances. I support moves to increase transparency and accountability and am happy to include further information on my website.

My general rule is that if I would not like to see the claim reported in my local newspaper then I should not be making the claim.

As of April 2009 an MPs basic salary is £64,766, an increase of 2.38% on last year. In past years I have made claims for my constituency flat in Worthing or my London home in Westminster where I live during the week. I have claimed running costs associated with owning a property including mortgage interest, utility and insurance.

Please see below for a breakdown of my Additional Costs Allowance (ACA), Incidental Expenses Provision (IEP) and Communications Allowance (CA) claims since 2004/5.
