New to the Area?

Worthing in West Sussex is a residential seaside resort with the highest proportion of elderly residents in the country. It enjoys 81 per cent owner-occupancy rate, low unemployment and high numbers of non-manual workers.

Tourism is important, with visitors attracted to the sea and the countryside - Worthing is situated at the foot of the Sussex Downs. The home of the English Bowls Association is in Worthing. Council literature states Worthing is "noted for its mildness", and that could refer as much to the nature of those who live in and near Worthing.

The Worthing West constituency includes the Arun district wards of Rustington, East Preston and Kingston, Northbrook and Ferring. In Worthing it includes Goring-by-Sea, Durrington, Salvington, Tarring, Castle, Heene, Marine and Central as far as the hospital.

About four people in ten do not think about day-to-day politics. They rely on activists to know and look after their interests locally as much as within Worthing, Arun, West Sussex and the country as a whole.

I am grateful to local people for helping to provide the eyes and ears for councillors and for me as the MP.

My first involvement was delivering leaflets, helping at jumble sales and putting forward ideas for improvements.

We welcome the talents of everyone who will join us, whether for discussion on important issues or the satisfaction of sharing activities that will help others.

If anyone asks why we choose to take part, we know the answer is that freedom was the prize in war and peace. We want to play our part, fully.

I thank everyone who cares that West Sussex should continue as a quiet enjoyable place to live, to work and to relax.
